Let’s start it-
Ease of Installation
Note- To install WooCommerce, first you must have a fully functional WordPress site. If you have no idea how to install it, read Hostinger tutorial on WordPress.
WooCommerce is a globally renowned WordPress plugin with over 3 million active installs. Similar to other WordPress plugins, WooCommerece is also free open source plugin and quite easy to install.
Some preparatory steps required for installation are as per below.
- Just log in to your WP account.
- Go to dashboard>Plugin>Add New>Install WooCommerce Plugin.
- Activate the WooCommerce, it will install the plugin on the site.
Soon after installing the plugin you will find a purple ‘Run the Setup Wizard’ button as you can see in the above snapshot. Click on it, the wizard will take you through various settings. And once setup wizard is completed, you will be directly taken to ‘Add a new Product Page’
On this page, you can start adding your products and customize your online store as per your preferences.
Opposed to WooCommerce, Shopify is a subscription-based service which means, you do not need to get hosting or install software from any 3rd party. Although you are permitted to buy a domain name from a 3rd party provider
To launch e-Commerce on Shopify, you need to visit its official website i.e. Shopify.com. On the right top corner, there is ‘Get Started’ button’, click on it. A screen will open where you have to put you ‘Email address’, ‘Password and Store Name’. See the following screenshot.
After filling the information, you will be taken to Shopify admin Panel. On admin panel, you will find ‘Start exploring’ button that will speak on different functions of Shopify.
To add a product, you have to click on the ‘Add product’ available on admin menu. Here you can add various details related to your product.
Both WooCommerece and Shopify seems exceptionally user-friendly in terms of installation.
Every entrepreneur wants more bang for their bucks. Nevertheless, these two platforms have different approaches to their pricing.
WooCommerce’s pricing depends on different factors. Although WooCommerece is a free open source plugin yet you have to consider various other additional charges such as domain name, hosting, theme (in case of premium) and SSL certificate.
However, you buy can WordPress hosting as low as $2.15/mo from Hostinger. Few leading hosting companies such as Hostinger, DreamHost, and GreenGeeks offer free domain name, SSL certification and a lot of other features for free with their premium packages. To reduce your pricing you can look for hosting plans of those companies.
But as said above, if you are already having a fully function WP site, you do not need not spend a single dollar to create your online store on WooCommerece.
The pricing for Shopify is quite clear and straightforward. However, unlike WooCommerce options are very limited with Shopify.
Shopify has three plans and you have to choose from these options only. Its basic plan named ‘Basic Shopify’ costs $29/mo whereas highest plan is known as ‘ Advanced Shopify. It will charge you ($299/mo.)
It is medium plan called ‘Shopify charges approximately ($79/mo)
If you are just a beginner, you can go with Basic Shopify and as you requirements increase you can upgrade to premium plans.
All these 3 plans come with free-of-cost Shopify domain. However, if you want to buy your own custom domain, you will have pay additional $14/year.
In comparison to Shopify, WooCommerce seems affordable. You can expect a basic eCommerce site on WooCommerce for approx.$10/per month while Shopify basic plan starts with $29/mo.
Customer support is one of the most crucial factors that should be considered before choosing any e-Commerce platform. If you a beginner, you may require assistance anytime for designing or customizing your store.
WooCommerce Customer Support
The Support Forum is one of the major ways to access customer support with WooCommerce. Another way to receive customer support in WooCommerce is ‘Support Ticket’. To access it, you can log in to WooCoommerce.com with your WordPress account and put your queries directly.
Design and Themes
Good theme and design act as trust indicator, it is important that you pick attractive and user-friendly themes for your e-Commerce store.
In term of designs and themes, WooCommerce is quite flexible. Users can choose the best-suited theme for their store out of thousands of WooCommerce WordPress themes. Along with WordPress, there are numerous third-party providers who develop themes for it.
On Shopify theme store as well, users can find hundreds of professional themes for their online store. However, in comparison to WooCommerce, these options are very limited. Moreover, premium themes at Shopify are high-priced than WooCommerce themes.
Shopify is quite secure; all its plans support free SSL. Unlike WooCommerce users need not buy SSL separately for their online store.
On the other hand with WooCommerce, SSL usually comes with premium packages. And if users have not chosen a premium package they will have to buy it separately.
However, WooCommerce supports various security plugins such as Wordfence, iThemes Security, and Sucuri Security.
There is no doubt that both WooCommerce and Shopify are amazing platforms for creating an online store. Hopefully, this detailed comparison will help you to pick the most-suited platform.More information about Woo Commerce and Shopify is here.
