The diesel variant was popular for its frugality. The Polo became instantly popular for its slight premium over other existing car makers in the country at that time.
  2. In 2011, the Polo received a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produced close to 74hp and was a little under performing. Since the price of this model was much lower than the previous 1.6 litres variant the sales went up higher. The color schemes were upgraded as well.
  3. In 2013, the Polo entered the market with a new turbocharged engine – a 1.2-litre TSI, along with a new trim that was known as the GT. It came with a 7-speed DSG and it instantly impressed automobile enthusiasts, which in turn boosted the sales of the vehicle.
  4. Women also started buying the TSI version as the car offered superb ease of driving. Sometimes later, the Polo GT TDI too was launched. It produced power of up to 105hp, with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, along with a manual transmission. In 2014, Volkswagen started developing a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine. The entire motor was developed in-house and has more than 60 percent localization.  The regular Polo model was upgraded to a 90hp configuration while the GT TDI produced 110hp.
  5. In 2016, the market saw the release of the new and redesigned Polo GTI. The GTI brought in the Polo in a 3-door format. The Rs 25 lakh price tag became a bit too high for the enthusiasts and interested people, which led to the company to lower the prices and sell the car at huge discounts.
  6. In 2018, Volkswagen launched the Polo with a 1.0-litre petrol engine. The specs of this car were a bit low due to the naturally aspirated engine, which was compensated by the Germans through the prices of the car which was kept low. The 1.5-litre diesel continued without any major changes.
  7. The new generation Polo comes with a BS-VI engine variant. The new model has seen several upgrades to the exterior, the infotainment system (comes with a 9.5-inch touchscreen, and a multitude of connectivity options) as well as the overall engine metrics.
